Case Description
In Enerhodar, in the occupied Zaporizhzhia region, on September 4, 2022, Russian security forces abducted 46-year-old Ukrainian citizen, engineer, and employee of the Zaporizhzhia NPP Sergey Korzh and his twin brother, an employee of the State Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety, Alexander Korzh. For several months, the Ukrainians were held without criminal prosecution, and only on January 30, 2024, Sergei was charged with espionage. According to the Russian investigation, from June to August 2022, Korzh collected and transmitted information about the locations of equipment and personnel of units of the Federal Service of the National Guard of the Russian Federation in the Zaporozhye region to an employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. According to the verdict of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Court, Sergei Korzh was found guilty and sentenced to 13 years of imprisonment to be served in a strict regime penal colony no later than October 11, 2024. No information about the appeal is available. Alexander Korzh was released from Simferopol Detention Center No. 2 on March 6, 2025, without being charged.
