Case Description

In the Kursk region on March 8, 2025, during hostilities, Ukrainian citizens, soldiers of the 80th separate airborne assault brigade of the armed forces of Ukraine Sergey Kolodiy and Sergey Boyko, were taken prisoner by Russian military personnel. Criminal charges were brought against them for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, from December 2024 to March 2025, Kolodiy and Boyko, as part of armed units of Ukraine, twice illegally crossed the state border of Russia in the Kursk region on armored personnel carriers. In the village of Cherkaskoye Porechnoye in the Sudzhansky District, they equipped observation and fire positions to blockade and hold the settlement, 'transmitted information about Russian military personnel, as well as intimidated civilians and hindered their evacuation.' "August 11, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Sergey Kolodia to 16 years and 6 months in prison, and Sergey Boyko to 17 years in prison, the first 5 years they must serve in prison, and the remaining term in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
