Case Description
On August 31, 2022, in the city of Starobelsk, occupied Luhansk region, unknown people in military uniforms with Rosgvardia chevrons broke into the home of 54-year-old local resident, Ukrainian citizen Sergey Ivashchenko, conducted a search of the house and outbuildings, found nothing, did not seize anything, took the man from the house and took him away in an unknown direction. Three months later, on December 7, 2022, a man called the wife of Sergei, Valentina Anatolyevna, introduced himself as an investigator from the LNR MGB, and said that Ivashenko was accused of participating in a terrorist community, and he was in the Luhansk SIZO. The reason for the criminal prosecution was military service in the banned in Russia "Aidar" battalion and service from May to August 2014 in the Starobelsk self-defense forces. , Ivashenko held the position of stoker-steamfitter in the battalion military unit. From July 2023, Ivashchenko was held in the pre-trial detention center No. 1 of Rostov-on-Don, then in the pre-trial detention center No. 2 of Taganrog. On June 11, 2024, the Southern District Military Court found Sergey Ivashchenko guilty and sentenced him to 6 years in a general regime colony. On December 23, 2024, the Appellate Military Court left the verdict unchanged.
