Case Description

Police detained 51-year-old local resident Sergey Goryunov in Sevastopol, annexed Crimea, on March 22, 2023. He was accused of preparing for sabotage, inciting a person to commit sabotage, as well as illegal circulation of an explosive device committed using the Internet. According to the Russian investigation, Goryunov, disagreeing with the conduct of the special military operation, carrying out a foreign intelligence assignment, voluntarily participated in preparations for sabotage activities, persuaded an acquaintance to engage in such activities and the illegal circulation of an explosive device. It is claimed that Goryunov "created conditions for an explosion" of the electrical substation "in order to undermine the economic security and defense capability of the Russian Federation and cause damage to the security of the Russian Federation." During the investigation, the Crimean was placed in custody at the request of the investigation. Goryunov himself claims that his prosecution is related to his anti-war stance, which he openly expressed on social networks: he wrote that 'the conflict should be resolved at the negotiating table, as people are dying'." Following the publications, his home was searched three times, but nothing was found. As a result, in the morning, they broke into his house, handcuffed him, and placed explosives in another room - they "seized" it in the presence of witnesses, whom the FSB operatives brought with them. According to Goryunov, during the preliminary investigation, he was subjected to psychological pressure, blackmailed, and threatened with harm to his son. Lawyer Alexei Terletsky, together with the investigator, in order to expedite the completion of the case, misled him and, under threat of punishment, induced him to give false testimony against himself. According to Goryunov's testimony, Terletsky, in addition to receiving a fee from Goryunov himself, was paid for his services from the federal budget as a court-appointed attorney. On January 18, 2024, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea found Sergey Goryunov guilty and sentenced him to 12 years in prison with a fine of 400 thousand. rubles. For the first 2 years, the man must spend in prison, the remaining term - in a strict regime colony. On May 22, 2024, the Third Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction left the verdict unchanged. On February 26, 2025, Goryunov was stripped of his acquired Russian citizenship on the initiative of the FSB."
