Case Description
In the Kursk region, no later than September 2024, during hostilities, four Ukrainian citizens, servicemen of the 64th separate rifle battalion of the 44th separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine - 58-year-old Pavel Oleksiuk, 54-year-old Serhii Horbachenko, 52-year-old Yurii Andriichenko, and 52-year-old Hryhoriy Liashchenko - were taken prisoner by Russian military personnel. Criminal cases were initiated against them for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, in early August or September 2024, Oleksiuk, Horbachenko, Andriichenko, and Liashchenko, armed with automatic small arms, large-caliber weapons, and explosive devices, illegally crossed the state border of Russia. Being in the village of Snagost in the Korenevsky district of the Kursk region, they "intimidated the local population, occupied private houses with the threat of using weapons, prohibited movement and hindered the evacuation of civilians, as well as repeatedly opened fire on Russian servicemen and peaceful residents." On February 25, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Pavel Oleksiuk to 16 years of imprisonment, Serhii Horbachenko, Yurii Andriichenko, and Hryhoriy Liashchenko to 15 years of imprisonment each. All of them must serve the first 3 years in prison, and the remaining part of the sentence in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
