Case Description
In the Kursk region on September 6, 2024, during hostilities, a 50-year-old citizen of Ukraine, Sergeant Major of the 22nd Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Sergey Yeremeev, was taken prisoner by Russian servicemen. A criminal case was opened against him for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, on September 6, 2024, Yeryomeyev, 'for the purpose of committing a terrorist act,' as part of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, illegally invaded the territory of the Russian Federation." While in the village of Vetreno, Korenevsky District, Kursk Region, Yeremeyev equipped observation and fire positions in the adjacent forest plantations, from which he "repeatedly opened fire on Russian servicemen and civilians." "In addition, he "in order to prevent the evacuation of the local population" mined the roads. On May 6, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Sergey Yeremeyev guilty and sentenced him to 15 years imprisonment, with the first 3 years to be served in prison, and the remainder in a strict regime penal colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
