Case Description
On August 13, 2024, in the Kursk region, four servicemen of the 11th separate battalion of the 22nd separate mechanized brigade of the armed forces of Ukraine were taken prisoner - Valeriy Malchenko, Sergey Bochenko, Sergey Litvinenko, and Sergey Bilichenko. Later, a criminal case was opened against the servicemen for committing an act of terrorism by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant property damage. According to the Russian investigation, at the beginning of August 2024, the defendants illegally crossed the state border of the Russian Federation. While in the territory of the Sudzhansky and Korenevsky districts of the Kursk region, they allegedly prohibited the movement of civilians, occupied private houses, and opened fire on Russian servicemen and civilians." During the investigation, the defendants in the case were placed in a "place of detention for prisoners of war." "No later than February 19, 2025, the 2nd Western District Military Court found the servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine guilty and sentenced Sergey Bochenko and Valery Malchenko to 15 years in prison each, Sergey Litvinenko and Sergey Bilichenko to 16 years in prison each. During the first 3 years of imprisonment, all convicts will serve their sentence in prison, and the remaining part - in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
