Case Description
In the Kursk region, no later than February 2025, Ukrainian citizens, riflemen of the 95th Separate Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 43-year-old Sergey Baranyuk and 47-year-old Alexander Vysotsky, fell into captivity to Russian servicemen. Criminal charges were brought against them for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, Baranyuk and Vysotsky, armed with automatic weapons and grenades, illegally invaded the territory of the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region between September 2024 and January 2025. Taking up firing positions, they participated in the armed blockade of the village of Kamyshevka, hindered the evacuation of civilians, observed Russian servicemen and passed information about them, and also created a threat to the life and health of Russian military personnel. July 15, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Sergey Baranyuk and Alexander Vysotsky guilty and sentenced each to 16 years in prison, the first 4 years they must serve in prison, and the remaining part - in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
