Case Description
On August 17, 2026, in Moscow, at Domodedovo Airport upon returning from Kyrgyzstan, 27-year-old mathematician and journalist Semyon Krasotkin was detained. After his arrest, law enforcement officers held him for an extended period under so-called 'carousel arrests' based on fabricated administrative reports for petty hooliganism. FSB operatives beat the man, tortured him with electric shocks, placed a bag over his head, and forced him to sing the song 'Mother Earth' and record confession videos in Ukrainian, a language he barely speaks.
In September 2026, after a second 'carousel' arrest, Krasotkin was charged with high treason.
According to the investigation, Krasotkin left paid reactions in the form of 'stars' on Telegram under posts from Ukrainian and opposition channels (including a meme channel allegedly raising funds for the Armed Forces of Ukraine). Law enforcement calculated the total amount of paid reactions and found that the man had transferred approximately 2,200 rubles (26 dollars).
On September 19, 2026, the Meshchansky District Court of Moscow ordered the defendant to be held in pre-trial detention.
