Case Description
In the Republic of Tatarstan, no later than August 2024, a criminal case was initiated against Rustem Malikhov, a resident of Naberezhnye Chelny, for repeatedly demonstrating extremist symbols. According to the investigation, Malikhov allegedly displayed the symbolism of the 'Freedom of Russia' legion in Telegram. Earlier, in May 2024, the man was brought to administrative responsibility under the article on demonstrating prohibited symbolism due to a publication in Telegram of images of the white-blue flag, which is a symbol of the Ukrainian "Freedom of Russia" legion, and the Ukrainian flag with the emblem of the "Azov" regiment. The man was placed under a non-leave obligation for the duration of the investigation. September 18, 2024, the Tukayevsky District Court of the Republic of Tatarstan found Rustem Malikhov guilty and sentenced him to 1 year suspended. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
