Case Description
11 August 2024, a 26-year-old Ukrainian citizen, commander of a section of the 80th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ruslan Poltoratsky, was detained in the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region. A criminal case was initiated against him for committing a terrorist act as part of a group of persons, resulting in grave consequences. According to the investigation, in August 2024, Poltoratsky, armed with an AK-74 assault rifle and an M-249 light machine gun, as part of a Ukrainian Armed Forces unit, illegally invaded Russian territory. While in the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region, he prevented the evacuation of the civilian population from the khutor Yuzhny and used weapons to intimidate peaceful residents. Before the verdict, Poltoratsky was held in custody. 6 May 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Ruslan Poltoratsky guilty and sentenced him to 17 years in prison, the first 4 years he must serve in prison, and the remaining part of the sentence - in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
