Case Description
In the Kursk region on May 13, 2025, during hostilities, a 44-year-old Ukrainian citizen, a soldier of the 425th separate assault regiment "Skala" of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ruslan Harbuzh, was taken prisoner by Russian military personnel. A criminal case was opened against him for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, on May 12, 2025, Garbuz, armed with an AK-74 assault rifle and grenades, as part of a unit on an armored personnel carrier, illegally crossed the state border of Russia in the Glukhovsky district of the Kursk region. He and his comrades "repelled attacks by Russian servicemen. On October 6, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Ruslan Garbuz guilty and sentenced him to 16 years in prison, with the first 4 years to be served in a prison, and the remaining part in a strict regime penal colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
