Case Description
In the Kursk region in early September 2024, during hostilities, three Ukrainian citizens were taken prisoner by Russian military personnel: Alexander Kramarenko, Ruslan Fedoseev, and Anatoly Savchuk, soldiers of the 95th separate airborne assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Criminal charges were brought against them for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, on August 26-27, 2024, Kramarenko, Fedoseev, and Savchuk, armed with automatic assault rifles, large-caliber weapons, and explosive devices, in groups with other military personnel from the same unit in civilian pickup-type vehicles, crossed the state border of the Russian Federation in the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region. Arriving at the villages of Pogrebki and Mala Loknya "in order to block and hold them under armed control, the military personnel equipped observation and fire positions with a unified reconnaissance, fire and communications system in the forest plantations located near them. Maintaining the villages under armed control, they observed the actions of units of Russian military personnel, transmitted information about them, mined roads and territories near the occupied positions, took measures to disorganize the activities of state authorities and local self-government bodies, intimidated peaceful citizens, forbade them to move, and hindered evacuation." "8 April 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Alexandra Kramarenko and Anatoly Savchuk to 16 years in prison, Ruslan Fedoseyev to 17 years in prison with the first 5 years to be served in a prison, and the remainder in a strict regime penal colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
