Case Description
In the occupied part of Luhansk region, no later than June 2024, a 35-year-old Ukrainian citizen, soldier of the Aidar battalion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Roman Petrovich was captured by Russian military forces. He was accused of participating in the activities of a terrorist organization and undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities. According to the Russian investigation, in May 2024, Petrovich voluntarily joined the ranks of the assault battalion "Aydar. He underwent training at a temporary deployment point and as a gunner participated in hostilities against the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation on the territory of the Lugansk and Donetsk People's Republics." On December 16, 2025, the Southern District Military Court found Roman Petrovich guilty and sentenced him to 18 years in a strict regime penal colony.
