Case Description
On May 15, 2024, in Melitopol, in the occupied Zaporizhzhia region, Russian security forces abducted a 60-year-old Ukrainian citizen with forced Russian citizenship, kindergarten teacher Olga Baranevskaya, directly from her home. In the evening, Olga went to the store. When she returned, they were already waiting for her near the house. She was allowed to bring in food and put the bicycle in the yard. For 44 days, her relatives did not know where she was. Only a month and a half later it became known that she was being held in a basement on the occupied territory of the region. There she was beaten, subjected to electric shocks, and forced to confess to crimes she had not committed. Baranovskaya was accused of 'storing and distributing explosives' and passing information to Ukrainian military. On August 14, 2024, she was officially placed in custody. In September 2024, the Ukrainian woman was transferred to Donetsk Detention Center No. 1. On November 19, 2024, the Melitopol Interdistrict Court of the Zaporizhzhia region found Olga Baranevskaya guilty and sentenced her to 6 years in a general regime colony and a fine of 10 thousand. rubles. On February 5, 2025, the Zaporizhzhia Regional Court upheld the sentence.
