Case Description
In Mariupol, in the occupied part of the Donetsk region, in May 2022, a 22-year-old citizen of Ukraine, a soldier of the Azov regiment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleg Volnov, fell into the hands of Russian military personnel. A criminal case was initiated against him, most likely for participation in a terrorist community and undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities. The reason for the criminal prosecution was service in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine of the nationalist "Azov" battalion, recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia.
