Case Description

On July 26, 2024, a 52-year-old local resident of Oleg Shaposhnikov was detained in the annexed Crimea. A criminal case was opened against him for repeated "discrediting" of the Russian army. According to the investigation, Shaposhnikov, being in a state of alcoholic intoxication, shouted the slogan 'Glory to Ukraine' in the building of the Soviet District Court of Crimea, which was included in the list of Nazi by the Ministry of Justice of Russia. On July 26, 2024, the court chose Shaposhnikova a measure of restraint in the form of house arrest. Earlier, in February 2024, the Sovetsky District Court of the Republic of Crimea fined Shaposhnikov in a case of an administrative offense under the article on 'discrediting' the RF army." "On September 16, 2024, the Sovetsky District Court of the Republic of Crimea found Oleg Shaposhnikov guilty and sentenced him to 1 year and 3 months of imprisonment conditionally. Also, the court prohibited the man from engaging in activities related to the public dissemination of information about the activities of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, including on the Internet, as well as during assemblies, rallies, demonstrations, marches, picketing, and participation in them for 1 year. On November 14, 2024, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea toughened the sentence, changing the suspended sentence to a settlement colony, while reducing the term of punishment to 6 months.
