Case Description
On March 2, 2025, in the Kursk region, during hostilities, 44-year-old Ukrainian citizen Oleg Sadovets, a machine gunner of the 95th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was taken prisoner by Russian military personnel. A criminal case was opened against him for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, on the evening of September 15, 2024, Sadovets and other military personnel illegally crossed the state border of Russia in the Sudzhansky district and proceeded deep into its territory to block and maintain control over the village of Pogrebki. For 10 days, he "participated in the equipment and holding of an observation and fire position, as well as intimidating the civilian population." After being wounded, he was treated in the Sumy region of Ukraine, and on February 10, 2025, he returned to the same area of the Kursk region and continued his activities. On October 3, 2025, the 2nd Western District Military Court found Oleg Sadovets guilty and sentenced him to 17 years imprisonment, with the first 3 years to be served in prison and the remainder in a strict regime penal colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
