Case Description
In the Kursk region, no later than October 2024, during hostilities, four Ukrainian citizens were taken prisoner by Russian servicemen: servicemen of the 47th separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine - 43-year-old Denis Kalashnikov, 36-year-old Alexey Shulkovsky, 47-year-old Oleg Ostroglad, and 39-year-old Sergey Storozhenko. Criminal charges were brought against them for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, in September 2024, Kalashnikov, Shulkovsky, Ostroglyad, and Storozhenko, as part of Ukrainian Armed Forces units, illegally invaded Russian territory. In the village of Veseloye in the Glushkovsky district, they "under threat of weapons occupied private houses, interfered with the evacuation of civilians and repeatedly opened fire on Russian military personnel and local residents. On April 3, 2025, the 2nd Western District Military Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Denis Kalashnikov and Oleg Ostrogljad to 16 years in prison each, and Alexei Shulkovsky and Sergey Storozhenko to 15 years each. The first 3 years they must serve in prison, and the remaining sentence - in a strict regime penal colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
