Case Description
In the Kursk region in November 2024, during hostilities, a 50-year-old citizen of Ukraine, a soldier of the 21st separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, junior sergeant Nikolai Teslya, was taken prisoner by Russian military personnel. A criminal case was opened against him for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, in November 2024, Teslya, armed with an assault rifle, as part of a Ukrainian Armed Forces unit, illegally invaded the territory of Korenevsky District in the Kursk Oblast. There he "intimidated local residents, prevented their evacuation, repeatedly opened fire on Russian military personnel and civilians, and also participated in the blockade of the village of Komarovka. On July 1, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Nikolai Teslya guilty and sentenced him to 15 years in prison, with the first 3 years to be served in a prison and the remainder in a strict regime penal colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
