Case Description
In the Kursk region on November 18, 2024, during combat operations, a 31-year-old Ukrainian citizen, a serviceman of military unit A-3283 (17th separate tank brigade), driver-radio telegraphist, senior soldier Nikolai Shevchenko, was taken prisoner by Russian military. A criminal case was opened against him for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, on November 1, 2024, Shevchenko, armed with an assault rifle, illegally invaded Russian territory. While in the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region near the village of Olgovka, he "equipped firing positions from which he intimidated local residents, blocked the settlement, and also prevented the evacuation of civilians." 4. On May 28, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Nikolai Shevchenko guilty and sentenced him to 17 years in prison, the first 4 years to be served in prison, and the remainder in a strict regime penal colony. The verdict was not appealed and came into force.
