Case Description
November 16, 2024, during combat operations in the Kursk region, a 52-year-old Ukrainian citizen, Nikolai Neveit, a serviceman and rifleman of the 17th Separate Tank Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was taken prisoner by Russian servicemen. A criminal case was opened against him for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, on the night of September 4, 2024, Neveit, armed with automatic weapons, ammunition, and two hand grenades, as part of a group of 25 people in trucks, illegally invaded the Kursk region. In a forest area near the village of Olgovka in Korenevsky District, he equipped an observation and fire position. For more than two months, Neveit "blocked the village, prevented the evacuation of civilians and intimidated local residents by demonstrating weapons and firing them." "August 7, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Nikolai Nevyta guilty and sentenced him to 16 years in prison, with the first 3 years to be served in prison and the remainder in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
