Case Description

On September 11, 2024, during hostilities in the Kursk region, six Ukrainian citizens were taken prisoner by Russian military personnel: servicemen of the 129th separate territorial defense brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, 36-year-old Sergey Blaschenko, 23-year-old Sergey Bokhonko, 52-year-old Nikolai Kononenko, 39-year-old Arthur Volkov, 42-year-old Maksim Khadiev, and 46-year-old Vitaly Chupin. Criminal charges were brought against them for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, in August-September 2024, military personnel from Ukrainian Armed Forces units illegally invaded the territory of the Russian Federation. Being in the villages of Guevo, Plekhovo, Borki and the village of Spalnoe in the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region, under the threat of using weapons, they occupied private houses, prevented the evacuation of civilians, and repeatedly opened fire on Russian servicemen and local residents." "March 25, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found the defendants in the case guilty and sentenced Sergey Blaschenko and Sergey Bokhonko to 15 years of imprisonment, Nikolai Kononenko, Artur Volkov, and Maksim Khadeev to 14 years of imprisonment, and Vitaly Chupin to 13 years of imprisonment. For the first 3 years, they will serve their sentence in prison, and the remainder in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
