Case Description
On May 3, 2023, in Vologda, special forces, together with local police officers and representatives of the Center for Combating Extremism, conducted a search at the home of Nikolai Yegorov, chairman of the local branch of the Yabloko party. After the search, he was taken away for questioning in handcuffs. Yegorova was accused of repeated "discrediting of the Russian army" and released on her own recognizance not to leave. The reason for the criminal prosecution was four anti-war posts on Yegorov's page on VKontakte. Earlier, in 2022, the politician was fined three times under an administrative article on discrediting the army. On June 11, the Velikoustyugsky District Court imposed an indefinite ban on certain actions on Nikolai Yegorov: the man was prohibited from using the Internet and telephone. On April 25, 2024, the Velikoustyugsky District Court of the Vologda Region found Nikolai Yegorov guilty and sentenced him to a fine of 200 thousand. rubles. The sentence was not appealed and entered into legal force.
