Case Description

On September 23, 2023, in the village of Ocherovatoye in the occupied Zaporizhzhia region, 31-year-old local resident and citizen of Ukraine, Mykola Dzhos, went missing. For a long time he was listed as missing. In February 2025, it became known that he was in the pre-trial detention center No. 2 in Mariupol. The Ukrainian was accused of participating in a sabotage community, committing sabotage, and espionage. According to the version of the Russian security forces, in May 2023, Dzhos, through the Telegram messenger, contacted his longtime acquaintance who was on the territory controlled by Ukraine and was serving in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Jos "agreed to join the sabotage community and undertook obligations to collect and transmit information about the locations of personnel, defensive and military structures, and armored vehicles of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for further missile and bomb strikes against them by the Armed Forces of Ukraine." It is claimed that Jos passed on data about the location of personnel and military equipment of the RF Armed Forces, including an anti-aircraft missile system covering the airspace of the Zaporozhye region. Soon after, using the coordinates he provided, the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out a missile and bomb strike with HIMARS MLRS, as a result of which an anti-aircraft missile system was destroyed and three Russian servicemen were killed. No later than September 3, 2025, the Zaporizhzhia Regional Court found Nikolai Dzhosa guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment with the first 5 years to be served in prison, followed by a strict regime penal colony. On December 23, 2025, the First Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction changed the verdict, details are unknown.
