Case Description
On September 12, 2023, in the occupied part of the Zaporizhzhia region, 38-year-old local resident, Ukrainian citizen Mykola Budovskyi, was detained. He was accused of participating in a sabotage community, illegal circulation of explosives and explosive devices, using the Internet, attempting to illegally manufacture and modify explosive devices, committed by an organized group, undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out sabotage activities and attempting sabotage. According to the Russian investigation, in 2022 Budovsky joined a sabotage community. Following instructions from an officer of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the man loaded and transported 19 mortar shells and 276 grams of plastic explosive in his car, which he hid in an outbuilding in his yard. It is claimed that certain 'members of a sabotage community' sent Budovsky training videos with detailed descriptions of the process of deactivating mortar shells, as well as methods of making homemade explosive devices. Additionally, according to Russian law enforcement officials, Budovsky planned to carry out an explosion using a homemade explosive device at the moment of passage of a column of Russian military equipment in the Mikhailovsky district. In the Luhansk region, in the part of it that was occupied at that time, on March 1, 2022, he kidnapped a 31-year-old citizen of Ukraine, a resident of Lviv, Alexei Babenko. The court chose detention as a preventive measure for the case's defendant during the investigation. On May 23, 2024, the Zaporizhzhia Regional Court found Nikolai Budovsky guilty and sentenced him to 18 years in prison, with the first 3 years to be served in prison, the remaining - in a strict regime penal colony with a fine of 800 thousand." rubles. On September 10, 2024, the First Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction left the sentence unchanged.
