It is claimed that certain 'members of a sabotage community' sent Budovsky training videos with detailed descriptions of the process of deactivating mortar shells, as well as methods of making homemade explosive devices. Additionally, according to Russian law enforcement officials, Budovsky planned to carry out an explosion using a homemade explosive device at the moment of passage of a column of Russian military equipment in the Mikhailovsky district. In the Luhansk region, in the part of it that was occupied at that time, on March 1, 2022, he kidnapped a 31-year-old citizen of Ukraine, a resident of Lviv, Alexei Babenko. The court chose detention as a preventive measure for the case's defendant during the investigation. On May 23, 2024, the Zaporizhzhia Regional Court found Nikolai Budovsky guilty and sentenced him to 18 years in prison, with the first 3 years to be served in prison, the remaining - in a strict regime penal colony with a fine of 800 thousand." rubles.
