Case Description
In June 2023, a criminal case was opened in Crimea against Ukrainian citizen Nikolai Budnikov on suspicion of incitement, recruitment, and arming individuals for the purpose of committing an act of international terrorism - carrying out an explosion outside the territory of the Russian Federation, endangering the life, health, freedom, and inviolability of citizens of the Russian Federation, aimed at disrupting peaceful coexistence between the state and peoples, directed against the interests of the Russian Federation. The details of the charges are unknown. On July 25, 2023, Budnikov was declared wanted at the federal level as a suspect, and after being charged in absentia as an accused, on August 16, he was declared wanted internationally. On August 18, 2023, the Kievsky District Court of Simferopol chose Budnikova a measure of restraint in the form of detention for 2 months from the moment of extradition to the territory of the Russian Federation or actual detention on the territory of the Russian Federation.
