Case Description
In July 2023, Nikita Byvaltsev, a 19-year-old resident of the village of Debesy in the Debessky District of the Udmurt Republic, was detained in Izhevsk. According to the investigation, on 14 July 2023 Byvaltsev set fire to a relay cabinet on the Gorky Railway section "Lukhsudya - Zavodskaya. The investigation believes that this was done for money, so the young man filmed the arson on his phone and "took measures to conceal the means and tools of the crime." Initially, a criminal case was opened against Byvaltsev under the article on intentional destruction of other people's property. But then the charge was reclassified as sabotage committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy. On July 14, 2023, the Leninsky District Court of Izhevsk sent Byvaltsev to a pre-trial detention center. On June 17, 2024, the Supreme Court of the Udmurt Republic found Nikita Byvaltsev guilty and sentenced him to 12 years of imprisonment with serving the first 3 years in prison, the rest of the term - in a strict regime colony. September 19, 2024, the Fourth Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction upheld the verdict.
