Case Description
A criminal case on financing extremism was opened against 61-year-old local resident Mikhail Popov in Essentuki, Stavropol Krai, in April 2025. The reason for the criminal prosecution was donations to the "Anti-Corruption Foundation. The man was taken into custody during the investigation, after which he was able to leave Russia in May 2025. On July 25, 2025, the Essentuki City Court of the Stavropol Territory ordered Popov to be placed on the wanted list and chose a measure of restraint for him in the form of detention in absentia. Earlier, in May 2022, the man was brought to administrative responsibility under the article on "discrediting" the Russian army due to a post with a photo of a picket with a poster "Putin is not all of Russia. Hold on Ukraine. In August 2024, Popova was fined in a case of an administrative offense under the article on the demonstration of extremist symbols due to a VKontakte post with the symbols of the organization "Anti-Corruption Foundation."
