Case Description
In Irkutsk in January 2025, local resident Mikhail Medvedev, 36, was detained. He was accused of public calls for extremism and activities aimed against state security. The reason for the criminal prosecution was a single comment in Telegram in January 2023. What exactly the man wrote is not reported. For the duration of the investigation, a preventive measure was taken against the defendant in the form of a written undertaking not to leave. On April 24, 2025, the Kirovsky District Court of Irkutsk found Mikhail Medvedev guilty and sentenced him to 3 years and 8 months in a general regime penal colony. The man was taken into custody in the courtroom. On June 24, 2025, the Irkutsk Regional Court left the verdict unchanged.
