Case Description
On December 14, 2024, in the Kursk region, during hostilities, citizens of Ukraine, military personnel of the engineer-sapper company of military unit A-3283 (17th separate tank brigade) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, sapper, senior soldier Vasily Pavlyukovych, and soldiers Mikhail Kostyuk and Alexander Ivanenko, were taken prisoner by Russian military personnel. Criminal cases were initiated against them for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, on December 13, 2024, Pavlyukovych, Kostyuk, and Ivanenko crossed the state border of Russia in the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region. They installed 34 anti-tank mines near the village of Kremyanoye in the Korenevsky district, after which they took up observation and fire positions. The investigation considered that their actions "hindered the evacuation of the civilian population, as well as used weapons against Russian military personnel and civilians." On July 25, 2025, the 2nd Western District Military Court found Vasily Pavlyukovych, Mikhail Kostyuk, and Alexander Ivanenko guilty and sentenced each of them to 16 years of imprisonment, the first 4 years they must serve in prison, and the remaining part of the sentence - in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into force.
