Case Description

Early March 2025, during combat operations in the Kursk region, a 42-year-old Ukrainian citizen, Mikhail Gordeyev, a rifleman of the 95th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was taken prisoner by Russian servicemen. A criminal case was opened against him for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, on the night of February 14, 2025, Gordeev, armed with an AK-74 assault rifle with ammunition and three hand grenades, together with other servicemen on the "Kazak" armored personnel carrier, illegally crossed the Russian state border in the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region. He proceeded towards the village of Malaya Loknya with the aim of blocking and holding it. On the spot, he equipped an observation and fire position, opposed Russian troops, took measures to disorganize the activities of government bodies and intimidated the local population. As a result of his actions, significant property damage was caused to local residents. October 10, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Mikhail Gordeyev guilty and sentenced him to 16 years in prison, with the first 3 years to be served in prison and the remainder in a strict regime penal colony.
