Case Description
In July 2023, a 36-year-old native of the Republic of Mordovia, Mikhail Glukhov, was detained in the Bryansk region. He was accused of attempted state treason. According to the investigation, Glukhov, who was negative about the war, went to Belarus in order to get to Ukraine from there and start fighting against Russia as part of the 'Freedom of Russia' legion." Belarusian security forces expelled the Russian citizen to the Bryansk region, but he, not abandoning his intentions, sent his questionnaire to the Ukrainian side for participation in combat operations against the Russian Federation. During an attempt to cross the border in Zlynkovsky District to continue on to Ukraine, Glukhova was detained by a border patrol of the Border Directorate of the FSB of Russia for the Bryansk Region. The court sent the man to a pre-trial detention center. On August 24, 2023, the Bryansk Regional Court found Mikhail Glukhov guilty and sentenced him to 8 years in a strict regime penal colony, with a 2-year restriction of freedom. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
