Case Description
In the Kursk region in mid-2024, during hostilities, 46-year-old Ukrainian citizen, serviceman of military unit A-3283 (17th Separate Tank Brigade), machine gunner, senior soldier Maksim Levchenko was taken prisoner by Russian military. A criminal case was opened against him for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, on November 1, 2024, Levchenko, armed with a machine gun, as part of the units of the armed formations of Ukraine, illegally invaded the territory of the Russian Federation. While in the village of Olgovka in the Korenevsky district of the Kursk region, Levchenko "equipped an observation and fire position from which he fired at Russian servicemen and civilians." 5. On May 30, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Maksim Levchenko guilty and sentenced him to 16 years in prison, with the first 4 years to be served in a prison, and the remainder in a strict regime penal colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
