Case Description
In July 2024, Maxim Grigoryev, a local resident of Moscow, was detained. He was accused of participating in an illegal armed formation for purposes that contradict the interests of the Russian Federation. According to the investigation, in October 2022, Grigoryev joined the "Freedom of Russia" legion by submitting a participant questionnaire. After that, he passed information about the situation in Moscow and the movements of law enforcement forces to representatives of the formation. In addition, from May 2023 to June 2024, at the direction of "legion" representatives, he contacted a developer of unmanned aerial vehicles and sent them a technical assignment for the development of software for UAVs with an automatic target acquisition system, intending to transfer it for use in combat operations against the Armed Forces of Russia. On July 18, 2024, the Tverskoy District Court of Moscow chose a measure of restraint for Grigoryev in the form of detention. On December 4, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Maxim Grigoryev guilty and sentenced him to 13 years of imprisonment, with the first three years to be served in prison and the remaining part in a strict regime correctional colony, with a restriction of freedom for 1 year.
