Case Description
In February 2023, it became known that a criminal case had been opened against former Moscow municipal deputy Lucy Stein on "fakes" about the Russian army on the grounds of political hatred. The activist's tweets from March 27, 2022, became the reason for persecution. On that day, she participated in discussions about a video that appeared online, allegedly showing Ukrainian military personnel shooting captured Russians in the legs: "These guys came to bomb other people's cities and kill people, and in response, they got their legs shot, even the Chechens were afraid of such torture, the tweet read. Stein was arrested in absentia and placed on the international wanted list. On March 27, 2024, Judge Timur Vakhrameev of the Basmanny District Court of Moscow found Lyudmila Shtayn guilty and sentenced her in absentia to six years and 15 days in a general regime colony." The court also deprived Shhtein of the right to administer websites for 3.5 years. The term of punishment is calculated from the moment of extradition to the territory of the Russian Federation, or from the moment of its detention on the territory of the Russian Federation. August 28, 2024, the Moscow City Court left the verdict unchanged.
