Case Description
Leonid Yudin, a 19-year-old resident of the Republic of Buryatia, was detained in the area of the village of Demiyanki in the Bryansk region at the end of May 2023. According to the FSB, the young man, disagreeing with Putin's policies, sent an application to the "Freedom of Russia Legion" and the "Russian Volunteer Corps" and planned to leave for Ukraine and participate in hostilities on the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. A criminal case was opened against Yudin on charges of treason, participation in a terrorist community, and illegal crossing of the state border. The court sent the young man to a pre-trial detention center. On December 12, 2023, the 2nd Western District Military Court found Leonid Yudin guilty and sentenced him to 13 years in prison, the first 3 years of which he will serve in prison, and the remaining term in a strict regime colony." "As an additional punishment, the court sentenced him to a fine of 100 thousand rubles and a restriction of freedom for a period of 1 year. On March 19, 2024, the Appellate Military Court changed the verdict without changing the qualification. Details of the court's decision are unknown.
