Case Description
Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, along with his supporters, is accused of creating an extremist community as part of another politically motivated criminal case. Several criminal cases were initiated against Alexei Navalny's associate Leonid Volkov. Among them is the case of "fakes" about the army. The investigation claims that the politician's words contain justification for causing harm to Putin's health, as well as information about crimes committed by the Russian army in Ukraine. In early November 2024, it became known that a criminal case was opened against Volkov for justifying terrorism in 16 episodes. ___ A criminal case against oppositionist Leonid Volkov on 45 episodes has been filed with the 2nd Western Military Court in Moscow. The "OVD-Info" project drew attention to this. Volkov is charged with 18 episodes of spreading military "fakes" (paragraphs "b" and "d" of part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code), 16 episodes of justifying terrorism on the Internet (part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code), four episodes of fraud on a particularly large scale committed by a group of persons (part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code), two episodes of vandalism committed by a group of persons on the grounds of political hatred (part 2 of Article 214 of the Criminal Code). Moreover, the politician is accused of rehabilitating Nazism by a group of individuals on the internet (paragraphs "b" and "c" of Part 2 of Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code), involving minors in rallies (paragraphs "a", "b", and "c" of Part 2 of Article 151.2 of the Criminal Code), creating an NGO that infringes on the personality and rights of citizens (Part 2 of Article 239 of the Criminal Code), organizing an extremist community (Part 3 of Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code), and financing it (Part 2 of Article 282.3 of the Criminal Code). 5. _ Since January 2021, Leonid Volkov has been on federal wanted list in a case of involving minors in rallies. Back in the summer of 2022, criminal cases were already brought against him for 'justifying terrorism' and military 'fakes'. Additional episodes were added to him in the fall of 2024. 2. ___ Leonid Volkov was sentenced in absentia to 18 years in a strict regime colony. The 2nd Western Military District Court in Moscow found the politician Leonid Volkov guilty on 45 counts under nine criminal articles - organizing an extremist community and its financing, military "fakes", justifying terrorism, fraud, vandalism, rehabilitating Nazism, involving minors in rallies and creating a non-profit organization that infringes on the personality and rights of citizens, writes "Meduza" citing a correspondent in the court. Volkov was sentenced in absentia to 18 years in a strict regime colony, as well as a fine of 2 million rubles. The prosecutor requested 18 years of imprisonment for him, a fine of 3.9 million rubles, as well as a two-year ban on administering websites on the Internet. Thaw! I was given 18 years in a strict regime. As the prosecutor requested. However, the fine turned out to be a bargain: only 2 million rubles. And they didn't even forbid using the internet! «Well, I'll use it then,» Volkov wrote online.
