Case Description
In April (exact date unknown) 2022, a criminal case was opened against politician Leonid Gozman for failing to report foreign citizenship. According to the Slovaks, he failed to report receiving Israeli citizenship in 2018 in a timely manner. On July 15, he was detained and interrogated at the Investigative Committee, after which he was released. July 25, Gozman was detained again, allegedly because he was wanted. However, he was then released, the investigator apologized and said that a mistake had been made. On August 30, Gozman was arrested for 15 days under an article on an administrative offense about equating the actions of the USSR and Nazi Germany due to a post on Facebook. On September 13, after the end of his administrative arrest, Leonid Gozman was detained again upon leaving the detention facility, and the next day the court again sent Gozman under administrative arrest for 15 days under the article on the repeated identification of the actions of the USSR and Nazi Germany due to a post dated 2013. Following the end of his second administrative arrest, Gozman managed to leave Russia. He was put on the wanted list. In December 2023, a criminal case was opened against politician Leonid Gozman for military 'fakes' motivated by political hatred. The reason for the criminal prosecution was the politician's publications on Facebook and Telegram channel. According to the investigation, Gozman "deliberately distorted" information about the war in Ukraine. In October 2022, the politician left Russia after serving two administrative arrests in a detention center under an article equating the actions of the USSR and Nazi Germany due to a post on Facebook and a record in LiveJournal from 2013. Several months earlier, a criminal case was opened against Gozman for failing to report to state authorities about obtaining Israeli citizenship in 2018. He is wanted. On February 20, 2024, the Gagarin District Court of Moscow placed Leonid Gozman under house arrest in absentia. On July 11, 2024, Judge Alisher Larion of the Gagarin District Court of Moscow found Leonid Goman guilty and sentenced him in absentia to 8.5 years in a general regime colony. The court also banned Gozman from engaging in legal practice and administering websites for 4 years. On November 7, 2024, the Moscow City Court upheld the sentence. In October 2025, the FSB of Russia opened a criminal case against Mikhail Khodorkovsky and members of the 'Anti-War Committee of Russia'. The list of individuals includes Mikhail Kasyanov, Marat Gelman, Leonid Gozman, Vladimir Kara-Murza, Sergey Aleksashenko, Dmitry Gudkov, Sergey Guriev, Boris Zimin, Yevgeny Chichvarkin, Yevgeny Kiselyov, Mikhail Kokorich, Yevgeny Kunin, Elena Lukyanova, Yuri Pivorov, Konstantin Chumakov, Anastasia Shevchenko, Viktor Shenderovich, Garry Kasparov, Kirill Martynov, Maxim Reznik, Artur Smolyaninov, and Ekaterina Shulman. The defendants are accused of violent seizure of power, as well as organizing a terrorist community and participating in it. Separately, Mikhail Khodorkovsky is accused of public calls for terrorist activity. According to the investigation, the aforementioned individuals established the "Anti-War Committee of Russia" movement in February 2022 with the aim of forcibly seizing power and changing the constitutional order in the Russian Federation. 30 April 2023 in Berlin, the movement adopted a founding document - the 'Berlin Declaration', which stated the need to liquidate the current authorities in Russia. In October 2025, with the participation of the movement in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, a "platform of Russian democratic forces" was created, which Mikhail Khodorkovsky positions to Western countries as a "constituent assembly of the transitional period" and an alternative to the bodies of power of the Russian Federation. Also, according to the investigation, Khodorkovsky and other founders of 'AKR' finance Ukrainian paramilitary units that are recognized as terrorist organizations in Russia and recruit people into them for the subsequent seizure of power in Russia.
