Case Description
In Belgorod, at the train station on October 4, 2022, 23-year-old Konstantin Sereda, a resident of Rostov-on-Don, was detained. He was accused of preparing for treason. According to the investigation, Sereda planned to illegally cross the state border of the Russian Federation in order to defect to the Ukrainian Armed Forces to participate in military actions against Russia as part of the Ukrainian armed formation Legion "Freedom of Russia. For the duration of the investigation, the defendant was placed in a pre-trial detention center. On April 21, 2023, Judge Kichigin Yuri Ivanovich of the Belgorod Regional Court found Konstantin Sereda guilty and sentenced him to 4 years of imprisonment to be served in a strict regime colony, followed by 1 year of restriction of liberty. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
