Case Description
On November 7, 2024, in the Kursk region, during hostilities, 43-year-old Ukrainian citizen Konstantin Brovchak, commander of a section of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was taken prisoner by Russian military personnel. A criminal case was opened against him for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, on the night of November 3, 2024, Brovchak, along with a group of fellow servicemen, illegally crossed the state border of Russia in the Sudzhansky district on a BMP (infantry fighting vehicle). They proceeded towards the village of Darino, where they "equipped observation and fire positions, which they held, exercising armed control, conducting surveillance, transmitting information about local residents and Russian military personnel, as well as intimidating peaceful citizens and prohibiting them from evacuating. On July 9, 2025, the 2nd Western District Military Court found Konstantin Brovchak guilty and sentenced him to 16 years of imprisonment, the first 3 years to be served in prison, and the remaining part of the sentence in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
