Case Description
In August 2022, a 39-year-old local resident and Ukrainian citizen, Khalil Ametov, was abducted in the occupied Kherson region. The man was taken to Crimea, where he was charged with participating in an illegal armed group.
According to Russian security forces, Ametov fought as part of the Noman Chelebidzhihan Volunteer Battalion, which is recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia.
On October 8, 2024, the Henichesk District Court of the Kherson Region found Khalil Ametov guilty and sentenced him to five years’ imprisonment in a maximum-security prison. The verdict was not appealed and became final.
