Case Description
In the Kursk region, on February 25, 2025, during hostilities, a 44-year-old citizen of Ukraine, a serviceman of the 225th Separate Assault Regiment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, rifleman Ivan Rumyantsev, fell into captivity to Russian servicemen. A criminal case was opened against him for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, around 10 p.m. on 24 February 2025, Rumyantsev, as part of a unit on the infantry fighting vehicle M2 Bradley, illegally crossed the state border of Russia in the Sudzhansky district. He proceeded to the area of the settlement of Darino to block it and maintain armed control over it. For less than 24 hours, Rumyantsev "blocked the village, observed the area, transmitted information about the actions of Russian troops, intimidated civilians and hindered their movement and evacuation." 4. On August 18, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Ivan Rumyantsev guilty and sentenced him to 16 years in prison, the first 4 years he must serve in prison, and the remaining part of the sentence—in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
