Case Description
10 February 2025 in the Kursk region during hostilities, a 49-year-old citizen of Ukraine, serviceman of the 82nd Airborne Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, driver of the "Cougar" armoured vehicle Ivan Pavlyuk was taken prisoner by Russian servicemen. A criminal case was initiated against him for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, around 8 a.m. on 6 February 2025, Pavlyuk, as part of the crew of the "Cougar" armoured vehicle, illegally invaded the Kursk region and headed towards the settlement of Ulanok in the Sudzhansky district to land the assault force. On the way, the armoured vehicle hit a mine. Due to his injury, Pavlyuk was unable to escape. On 6 August 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Ivan Pavlyuk guilty and sentenced him to 16 years' imprisonment, the first 4 years he must serve in prison, and the remaining part of the sentence - in a strict regime penal colony. The sentence was not appealed and entered into force.
