Case Description
19 January 2023, in the area of the settlement of Atinskoye in the Sumy region, a 42-year-old serviceman of the 115th Brigade, Ivan Nechiporenko, was taken prisoner by Russian servicemen. Subsequently, a criminal case was opened against Nechiporenko for "participation in a terrorist community" due to his service in the "Aidar" battalion. In the opinion of the Russian investigation, the crime consists in the fact that Nechiporenko joined the 'Aidar' battalion in 2014, and in 2022 was mobilized into the 115th brigade. According to the Russian investigation, from July 2014 to January 2015, Nechiporenko on the territory of the Luhansk region "participated in the activities of a terrorist community" — the 24th separate assault battalion "Aydar": he contributed to activities aimed at violently changing the constitutional order, seizing power in the regions, destabilizing the situation in the "LPR", persecuting the civilian population on political and national grounds within the framework of punitive operations, silently approved and wished to implement" the tasks set before him. September 3, 2024, the Southern District Military Court found Ivan Nechiporenko guilty and sentenced him to 5.5 years in a general regime colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
