Case Description

On November 9, 2023, at seven in the morning, 27-year-old local resident Ivan Nazarov was detained in Novokuznetsk, Kemerovo Oblast. He was taken to the Central police department, where a protocol on an administrative offense for disobeying a lawful order of a law enforcement officer was drawn up against the young man. According to the security forces, Nazarov "refused to provide his identifying data, present identity documents, and enter the service vehicle," pushed away the officers and tried to escape. On the same day, Central District Court Judge of Novokuznetsk Yulia Kolchina ordered Nazarov to be arrested for one day. The judge ordered the arrest period to be counted from six in the evening on November 9. There is no data on a second arrest, but on December 10, 2023, at 18:20, Ivan Nazarov was detained again, and again taken to the Central police department. This time, according to the security forces, Nazarov refused to enter the service premises of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Kemerovo Oblast, "tried to escape, resisted, pushed away police officers, did not respond to repeated demands of police officers to enter the service premises, and behaved aggressively." On December 11, 2023, Central District Court Judge of Novokuznetsk Victoria Fedotova arrested Nazarov for 14 days. On December 24, Nazarov was released. He managed to inform his friends that he was being followed and disappeared the same day. A month later, a video of his detention on a criminal case appeared online. According to the FSB, the man transferred money to the Armed Forces of Ukraine "for the purpose of purchasing military equipment," and also called for activities against the security of Russia. He was accused of state treason and public calls against state security, and sent to a pre-trial detention center. On July 30, 2025, the Kemerovo Regional Court found Ivan Nazarov guilty and sentenced him to 14 years in a strict regime penal colony and 1 year of restriction of freedom. On October 8, 2025, the Fifth Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction left the sentence unchanged.
