Case Description
On October 27, 2024, in the Kursk region, during hostilities, 53-year-old Ukrainian citizen, soldier of the 17th separate tank brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, rifleman Ivan Golysnkyi, was taken prisoner by Russian military personnel. A criminal case was opened against him for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, on the night of September 24, 2024, Golysnky, as part of his unit, illegally invaded the territory of the Kursk region. Being in the Sudzhansky and Korenevsky districts for about a month, he participated in the blockade of Olgovka village, occupied private houses, equipped observation and fire positions, and opened fire on Russian military personnel and civilians. In addition, he hindered evacuation, intimidated local residents, conducted surveillance and transmitted information about the actions of Russian troops. On June 10, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Ivan Golysnky guilty and sentenced him to 16 years in prison, the first 3 years he must serve in prison, and the remaining part of the sentence - in a strict regime penal colony.
