Case Description
In Bryansk in November 2022, 19-year-old local resident Ilya Kutsev was detained. He was accused of attempting to participate in an illegal armed formation to the detriment of the Russian Federation. According to the investigation, Kucov, upon learning about the start of the war, decided to travel to Ukrainian territory to participate in combat operations as part of the Ukrainian legion "Freedom of Russia, fighting on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Kutsaev was detained on his way to Minsk, where he was traveling by train with his brother: the latter had alimony arrears. On January 13, 2023, the Bryansk Regional Court found Ilya Kutsev guilty and sentenced him to 7 years in a strict regime colony with the first 1.5 years to be served in prison. On March 21, 2023, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation left the verdict in force.
