Case Description
In early October 2023, a 41-year-old local resident, English and French language teacher Ilya Konstantinov, was detained in Krasnoyarsk. He was accused of spreading "fakes" about the Russian army and calls for terrorism. According to the investigation, on September 18, 2022, Konstantinov posted a comment on social media containing knowingly false information about Russian military personnel committing crimes, torture, and murder of civilians. Additionally, on April 3, 2023, he published a comment on the Internet justifying terrorism, presumably due to a comment about the murder of military correspondent Vladlen Tatarsky. On October 4, 2024, the court placed the defendant in the case in a remand prison. On October 4, 2024, the 2nd Eastern Military District Court found Ilya Konstantinov guilty and sentenced him to 6 years in prison in a general regime correctional colony with a ban on engaging in activities related to website administration for 3 years. On February 10, 2025, the Appellate Military Court changed the verdict: recognizing active assistance in uncovering crimes as a mitigating circumstance, it reduced the punishment to 5 years and 10 months of imprisonment in a general regime colony.
