Case Description
In mid-August 2024, a criminal case was initiated in Syktyvkar for justifying terrorism against a local 34-year-old resident, Ilya Chugaev. According to the investigation, the man, from August 19, 2023, to August 3, 2024, using his personal account publicly available on the Internet, posted text comments that contained a positive assessment of the "Freedom of Russia" Legion and the "Russian Volunteer Corps. On August 16, 2024, the Syktyvkar City Court sent Chugayev to a pre-trial detention center. November 29, 2024, the 1st Western Military District Court found Ilya Chugaev guilty and sentenced him to 3 years in prison to be served in a general regime colony. The court also banned Chugayev from administering websites and channels on the Internet for 2 years." On March 25, 2025, the Appellate Military Court left the verdict unchanged.
